See How the New Subaru Outback Compares Against the Competition!

The new Subaru Outback Underwent a redesign recently and currently awaits in our new inventory at Crews Subaru of Charleston. This versatile crossover SUV continues to excel as an adventure-worthy choice, capable of off-road adventures and everyday driving. With its unique design, adaptable suspension, user-friendly technology, and affordable price, the new Subaru Outback presents a popular choice among drivers of all different ages and backgrounds.

However, the new Subaru hardly stands alone in its class; other crossovers emerge from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan to provide a challenge. Let us show you the best ways the Subaru Outback rises above these worthy challengers before you check one out here at Crews Subaru of Charleston. Shoppers will find us here in North Charleston and less than a half-hour outside of Mt Pleasant.

Subaru Outback vs Toyota RAV4

  • Price: The Subaru Outback begins at a more comfortable starting price well below $30,000, while the Toyota RAV4 starts almost $1,000 more than the Outback and only increases the more features you add.
  • Fuel Economy: While many people associate Toyota models with fuel economy, the Toyota RAV4 falls short, traveling up to 25 mpg in the city, with a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 gallons. Meanwhile, the Subaru Outback travels an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city with an 18.5-gallon fuel tank.
  • Capability: Interestingly, the standard engine of the Toyota RAV4 generates more horsepower, but falls short in towing capacity and can only haul 1,500 lbs. The Outback offers the highest towing capacity out of all these challenges with 2,700 lbs.
  • Interior: Through its recent redesign, the RAV4 shrunk in size, so its total passenger volume dropped to 98.9 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the Outback increased in size and provided 109 cubic feet of passenger space.

Subaru Outback vs Honda CR-V

  • Transmission: While the Honda CR-V also contributes a great deal of power in its engine, the standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) of this crossover produces clunkier automatic gear shifts, over the more precise eight-speed transmission of the Outback.
  • Fuel Economy: The fuel tank of the Subaru Outback holds 18.5 gallons of unleaded gas and can travel an EPA-estimated 33 mpg on the highway. The CR-V travels up to 32 mpg on the highway outside Hanahan and holds only 14 gallons of fuel.
  • Convenience: Shoppers love the adventure-worthy equipment of the Outback, including standard crossbars on the roof rails which transform the top into a functioning roof rack. A roof rack comes available on the CR-V for an extra cost.
  • Interior: While the CR-V offers a bit more passenger space than the RAV4, it still falls short in its overall wheelbase, with a passenger volume of 105 cubic feet, versus the 109 cubic feet from the Outback.

Subaru Outback vs Nissan Rogue

  • Horsepower: The standard inline four-cylinder (I4) engine of the Nissan Rogue generates 170 horsepower, whereas, the Subaru Outback generates 182 horsepower with its innovative Subaru Boxer® engine.
  • Towing: In addition to this power, the Subaru Outback tows up to 2,700 lbs., giving Summerville customers a wide range of options for what they can bring to Ashley Forest near West Ashley. The Nissan Rogue falls short and tows up to 1,102 lbs. with its engine.
  • Convenience: The Subaru Outback comes standard with a roof rack capable of holding up to 150 lbs. As well as in-glass antennae for the sound system, and an available windshield wiper de-icer. Some of these features come available on the Rogue for extra money, but not the de-icer.
  • Fuel Economy: The Nissan Rogue falls drastically short in fuel economy, traveling an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with a fuel capacity of 14.5 gallons. The Subaru Outback presents the Summerville commuter's choice, traveling 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
