See How the Subaru Forester Takes on the Challengers at Crews Subaru of Charleston

For many years now, the Subaru Forester has stood tall as the iconic "flagship" of the Subaru SUV lineup, as one of the most highly-recognizable crossovers from the brand. Its spacious interior and a generous selection of safety features make it a top choice for families, and its fuel-efficient horizontally-opposed engine makes it the daily commuter's best friend. At Crews Subaru of Charleston, we want customers near the North Charleston area to feel total satisfaction in their choice of SUVs, so let us take a look at how the new Subaru Forester SUV takes on the competition.

Shoppers will find Crews Subaru of Charleston located on Rivers Ave and less than 15-minutes outside of Hanahan.

Subaru Forester vs Toyota RAV4

  • Fuel Economy: The Subaru Forester proves itself the more efficient SUV overall for the morning ride to work in Charleston and can travel up to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The Toyota RAV4 falls short, traveling an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
  • Interior: The Subaru Forester has the roomiest interior out of all these competitors, with almost 112 cubic feet of passenger volume. The Toyota RAV4 lost some space due to a recent redesign and now offers only 98.9 cubic feet of interior passenger volume.
  • Traction: While both crossovers have an all-wheel drive, the Forester offers standard Subaru Symmetrical AWD with an automatically limited-slip differential to boost traction as needed. The RAV4's all-wheel drive train does not include this feature, making it less responsive in adverse weather.
  • Price: No matter your budget, the Subaru Forester starts at a comfortable starting price, with lots of standard features. The Toyota RAV4 offers some comparable features but begins almost $3,000 more than its competition from our dealership.

Subaru Forester vs Honda CR-V

  • Towing: The standard horizontal SUBARU BOXER® engine of the Subaru Forester enables base models to tow 1,500 lbs., whereas, the Honda CR-V does not have a listed towing capacity. However, most experts would not recommend this crossover for towing.
  • Fuel Economy: The Honda CR-V travels an EPA-estimated 32 mpg on the highway outside Mt. Pleasant and features a fuel tank capacity of 14 gallons. The Forester can travel up to 33 mpg on the highway and holds up to 16.6 gallons of unleaded fuel.
  • Transmission: Auto reviewers often find the transmission of the Honda CR-V more imprecise with its gear changes, producing a clunkier acceleration overall. The seven-speed Lineartronic® transmission of the Subaru Forester provides much more responsive and smooth automatic gear shifts.
  • Interior: While the CR-V provides a bit more space than its Toyota counterpart, it falls short of the Subaru Forester all the same, with a passenger volume of 105.9 cubic feet, over the 111.9 cubic feet of our roomy five-seat crossover in North Charleston, SC.

Subaru Forester vs Nissan Rogue

  • Features: For a little extra help preparing your car on a cold, icy winter day in Goose Creek, the Subaru Forester comes available with a windshield wiper de-icer. Drivers will not find this feature available on new Nissan models, though it does come available on the RAV4 as well.
  • Horsepower: While many know Nissan for their powerful cars, this does not seem the case with the Rogue, as its engine generates 170 horsepower. The standard horizontal engine of the Forester generates 182 horsepower total.
  • Fuel Economy: The Forester proves the more fuel-efficient SUV overall, traveling an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and holding almost 17 gallons of fuel. The Nissan Rogue can hold up to 14.5 gallons of fuel and travels up to 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
  • Weight: The Subaru Forester weighs in at a base curb weight of 3,449 lbs., thus, reducing its drag and improving fuel economy. The Nissan Rogue weighs the most out of these competitors, with a curb weight of over 100 lbs. heavier than its competition from Subaru.
