This model year marks the extension of keyless access with push-button engine start to the Premium trim, which also gains two additional speakers and a Wi-Fi hotspot. At the Sport trim level, Subaru introduces a color multifunction display (instead of a monochromatic one), as well as dual rear charging-only USB ports.
At the Limited trim level, Subaru adds climate controls in the front passenger side (in addition to that of the driver), and the liftgate gains powered operation. In addition, the 6.5-inch touchscreen is replaced by a larger, eight-inch one. Only the Touring has a nine-speaker Harman Kardon® sound system and a navigation system that includes voice-activated controls and a trial subscription to SiriusXM Traffic.
Safety
For 2021, a rear seatbelt reminder is standard across all trims. It joins the EyeSight driver-assistance suite, which provides:
- Pre-collision braking and throttle management
- Lane departure and sway warning
- Adaptive cruise control with lane centering
Seven airbags are on board to provide protection when there's a crash. Other standard safety features on the Forester include the following:
- Hill descent control
- Vehicle dynamics control
- Traction control
- Trailer stability assist
- Four-wheel anti-lock disc braking with brake assist and brake override
- LED daytime running lights
The Sport trim gains blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, which is a new attainment for this model year. Also debuting at the Sport level are lane change assist, high beam assist, and the Starlink Safety and Security suite of functions. Reverse automatic braking is reserved for the Touring.
