When Do I Need New Tires?

We all know that our tires are important. After all, they're our vehicle's connection to the ground! Healthy tires help you stay in control when you're on the road. Proper tire tread helps you maintain control of your vehicle, which keeps you and other drivers safer. Driving will cause your tires to wear down, though, and eventually you'll need to replace them.

How do you know if your tires have enough tread? One easy way to find out is with the penny test. Take a penny and insert it head-first into your tire tread. If any part of Lincoln's head is covered, you're in the clear. Conversely, if you can see all of Lincoln's head, you need new tires. You should insert the penny into many tread grooves across the tire in order to more accurately gauge its tread. A key to tire maintenance is tire rotation. Your tires don't all undergo the same wear and tear; the front tires wear differently than the back ones. Tire rotation moves your tires to a different spot on your vehicle, to help even out the wearing.
